The important thing is to learn how to program. The actual language is less important than the underlying core principles: variables, conditions, branches, loops, functions, arrays, and objects.
Having said that, it appears that Kindle is using a particular branch of the Java language. Standard Java is a very popular language in computer science classes, and there are many books on the topic (Including a very old one I wrote) It’s not a bad language to start in, but all programming can be frustrating.

If you bought it from someone, not a store or an official site, then I’d say you got scammed.
Most likely someone used it and dropped it. I can’t tell you to take it apart or how to fix it since the screen uses new technology that I don’t really know how to use. Sorry.
