Technology and the Mobile Phone

Gadgets are incredible. They make our lives so much easier and allow us to get through our lives that little bit easier. They are indeed just about everywhere in our lives, and we take them wherever we go. To the shops, on holiday and certainly they feature heavily at work. The portability of things such as laptop computers and mobile phones enable us to be connected to people, just about anywhere we go.

What gadget features the most in people’s lives? I would suggest the most used gadget today is the mobile phone. Many people actually say that they feel naked without it. People are heavily reliant upon phones for many different things and, as the price has reduced so much in recent times, mobile phones are more accessible, as they are almost given away by high street stores.

So if the mobile phone is the most commonly used gadget, what do we use them for? We could not answer this mammoth question in one article as it would take years to answer. A key feature of the mobile phone is that they provide a safety net by opening up an open line of communication between us and our nearest and dearest, should we ever get into trouble then a phone call can always help.

Mobiles have, in the past, saved a person’s life. I remember reading an article on a tourist who had got lost on an expedition, but had subsequently managed to ring their friends. Their friends had then contacted the local police, who initiated a search for them. Without the mobile, it is difficult to understand how they would have survived, being lost in the jungle, and indeed their lives were saved.

As I previously discussed the mobile is a central feature of the business community. In fact they are so integrated into the business world that I often ponder, how business coped before they were around. From police officers who use it to report in accident, to lorry drivers who need them to call their base, mobiles are a gadget that is featured throughout the business sector.

Mobile phones, as a gadget, can also be somewhat restrictive to some people. Historically, many workers were able to enjoy their weekends with few interruptions. This then enable people to relax and unwind and to recoup ready for the next busy working week ahead.

As employees have their phones with them at the weekend, it is subsequently difficult to get away from the pressures of work as people are easily contacted on the phone. Whilst the weekend used to be a time of enjoyment, the trusty gadget ringing can be quite a pain, particularly if it is work related.
